J.F. Lehman Add-on to Trident

August 17, 2016 by John McNulty

Trident Maritime Systems, a portfolio company of J.F. Lehman & Company, has signed an agreement to acquire Callenberg Technology Group from Wilhelmsen Maritime Services.

Callenberg designs, assembles, integrates, and supports HVAC; electrical controls; power distribution and energy conservation systems; and insulation systems for passenger, commercial and government vessels. Callenberg was spun out from Wilhelmsen as a wholly-owned subsidiary in January 2015. The company, with offices in 140 countries, has approximately 900 employees and is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden (www.callenberg.com).

Trident Maritime Systems was formed by J.F. Lehman in 2012 through the combination of US Joiner (acquired in June 2011) and IMECO (acquired in December 2012). The company’s services include the design, engineering and installation of nearly all aspects of a ship’s interior as well as various systems including HVAC, cargo handling, electric steering, propulsion, communication, navigation and fire suppression. Most of the services provided by Trident are for new ship construction, retrofit and repair activities for both government and commercial customers. The company has approximately 625 employees and is headquartered near Charlottesville in Crozet, VA (www.tridentmaritimesystems.com).

“The addition of Callenberg adds a highly complementary set of systems and capabilities to the Trident platform which will ultimately allow us to better serve our customers,” said Tom Eccles, CEO of Trident. “This acquisition also significantly strengthens our presence internationally and improves our ability to support our global customers.”

J.F. Lehman & Company is a middle-market private equity firm focused primarily on the maritime, defense, and aerospace sectors. The firm was founded by Dr. John Lehman, who served six years as Secretary of the United States Navy. To date, J.F. Lehman has made investments in companies with an aggregate transaction value of approximately $1.6 billion. The firm was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in New York with an additional office in Washington, DC (www.jflpartners.com).

Wilhelmsen Maritime Services is a subsidiary of Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding (OSE: WWI) which has approximately 17,600 employees and operations in 73 nations. The company is headquartered near Oslo in Lysaker, Norway (www.wilhelmsen.com).
