Peak Rock Acquires Buck Bomb

April 30, 2015 by John McNulty

Hunter’s Specialties, a portfolio company of Peak Rock Capital, has acquired Buck Bomb, a supplier of hunting attractants.

Buck Bomb’s product portfolio includes a range of scent attractants and feed attractants for deer, bear, elk, moose, coyote, fox, and hog. The company also sells a variety of related hunting accessories. The company’s products are sold through large and small retail outlets, independent dealers, and on the company’s website.  Buck Bomb is headquartered south of Baltimore in Crofton, MD (www.buckbomb.com).

Hunter’s Specialties – acquired by Peak Rock Capital in April 2014 – is a manufacturer and supplier of branded hunting products for mass merchant and sporting goods retailers and distributors.  The company’s portfolio includes scent control products, game calls, attractants, wildlife management products, and general hunting accessories. Brand names include Hunter’s Specialties, Scent-A-Way, HS Strut, Johnny Stewart, Vita-Rack, and Wayne Carlton’s Calls.  Hunter’s Specialties was founded in 1977 and is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, IA (www.hunterspec.com).

“We are excited to invest in Buck Bomb and to continue its tremendous growth trajectory.  This acquisition demonstrates management’s ability, with Peak Rock’s assistance, to identify and execute highly strategic add-on acquisitions designed to accelerate revenue growth at Hunter’s Specialties,” said Peter Leibman, Managing Director of Peak Rock Capital.

Peak Rock Capital makes debt and equity investments of $20 million to $150 million in middle market companies with revenues from $50 million to $1 billion and enterprise values from $25 million to $500 million. Sectors of interest include business and commercial services; consumer; distribution and logistics; energy and related services; healthcare; industrials; manufacturing, metals, and media. The firm is based in Austin (www.peakrockcapital.com).

“Buck Bomb has a strong competitive position, a leading hunting brand and a unique product portfolio in a key growth category,” said John Trull, CEO of Hunter’s Specialties.  “We believe Buck Bomb’s products are a complementary fit within Hunter’s Specialties’ portfolio and are excited to bring the Buck Bomb team on board, as we continue to focus on innovation and drive growth at Hunter’s Specialties.”
