3i supply nf1The roll-up of the mechanical insulation distribution industry continues as Distribution International, a portfolio company of Advent International, has acquired 3i Supply Company, a distributor of mechanical and industrial insulation.

Advent acquired Distribution International from Audax Private Equity and The CapStreet Group in December 2014. In turn, Audax and CapStreet acquired DI in August 2010 from Grey Mountain Partners.

di nf1Distribution International (DI) is a distributor of thermal and acoustical insulation and related supplies.  The company has 64 branch locations and serves customers in the commercial building, chemicals, energy, power, railcar and marine end markets. Most of DI’s sales are derived from ongoing maintenance and repair spending in industrial installations and commercial buildings.  DI was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Houston (www.distributionintl.com).

3i supply nf11In 2015, DI added 19 branches through three acquisitions, building out its footprint in the Midwest, Pacific Northwest and the Mountain Region.

The purchase of 3i Supply (www.3isupply.com), based in Midland, MI, will further expand DI’s operations in the Midwest and broaden the combined company’s service offering to customers in the region.

“In acquiring 3i Supply, we will be expanding our fabrication capabilities into Michigan,” said Robert Hlavenka, Vice President and General Manager of Distribution International. “This acquisition is consistent with our strategy of providing unrivaled customer service throughout North America. Current 3i operations will become part of DI’s Midwest region.”

Earlier add-on acquisitions completed by DI under Advent ownership include: E.J. Bartells (www.ejbartells.com) in December 2015; Selle (www.sellesupply.com) and PBI Supply (www.pbisupply.com) in October 2015; and Insulation Fabricators (www.insulationfabricators.com) in June 2015. According to Advent International, the pipeline for additional acquisitions for DI is full with many synergistic and earnings accretive targets available.
