Huron Capital Partners has formed a partnership with industry executive Terry Heath to build a platform company in the fire detection services industry. The new platform company is called Sciens Building Solutions and it will look to acquire companies that install fire alarm products, conduct inspection and testing services, and provide ongoing maintenance and monitoring.
Huron’s investment thesis is based on the increasing focus on fire safety for commercial and institutional buildings. “We believe demographic and regulatory trends will drive growth in the fire detection space, and Terry Heath is an experienced executive in this market who will provide strong leadership to the Sciens’ platform,” said Jim Mahoney, Partner at Huron Capital. “We are excited to partner with Terry to build a national platform with specialized capabilities within fire detection.”
Huron Capital Partners invests up to $70 million per transaction in middle market companies that have revenues up to $200 million and EBITDAs of $5 million or more. Sectors of interest include specialty manufacturing, business services, consumer goods & services, and healthcare. The firm was founded in 1999 and currently manages over $1.1 billion in committed equity through four private equity funds. Mr. Heath was previously an executive at Siemens Corporation, most recently as its Senior Vice President of Corporate Technology USA. His Siemens experience included 18 years in the Building Technologies division, where he focused on building fire and security detection systems.
Acquisition targets for Sciens will be US or Canadian companies that have a minimum of $15 million in annual revenues and are active in providing fire detection services to commercial buildings, universities, hospitals, and other large, non-residential buildings.
