- Primary sources only. Every story starts from the deal parties, their filings or their releases. A competitor’s story is never a source.
- Numbers over adjectives. Deal terms, multiples and fund sizes carry the story, not “leading” or “best-in-class.”
- The backstory. PEP traces the ownership history: who bought it, when, what they added and who sold.
- Quotes as issued. Executive quotes run verbatim, never trimmed to fit a narrative.
- Confidence kept. Survey responses are seen by one person, aggregated before analysis and never shared. That has held for eighteen surveys.

I spent 14 years in private equity before starting Private Equity Professional in 2007. The middle market had no publication that saw deals the way dealmakers did, so I built one.
Nineteen years and more than 10,000 articles later, the job hasn’t changed: find the deal, get the numbers right, and tell you what the press release left out.
