Great Point-Backed VetnCare Acquires Geary Veterinary Hospital

VetnCare runs a group of general practice veterinary hospitals in Northern California, treating dogs and cats for everything from vaccinations and dental work to surgery and senior care while giving each practice shared access to specialists, equipment and administrative support. The Oakland company has acquired Geary Veterinary Hospital in Walnut Creek.

Founded in 1979, Geary is led by Dr. Gillian Hamilton, a former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologist, and Dr. Erica Weiss, who trained in laboratory animal medicine. The practice handles wellness care, diagnostics, imaging, surgery, dental work and senior pet care. Geary is VetnCare’s seventh acquisition since it partnered with Great Point Partners and its second under chief executive Matt Kirchner, who said the transaction preserves what has made the hospital work while extending VetnCare’s East Bay presence. Eddie Hjerpe of Great Point Partners said Geary is the kind of clinician-led practice the VetnCare model is built around.
