Avista Healthcare Partners buys healthcare product and technology companies, among them device makers, contract manufacturers, diagnostics businesses and pharmaceutical companies, and works with their management teams to expand them. The New York firm has added Tom Orr as a strategic executive.
Mr. Orr has spent more than two decades in medical device contract manufacturing and injection molding. He is chairman of Bentec Medical, an Avista portfolio company that makes silicone-based components for medical devices, and was previously president and chief executive of Seaway Plastics Engineering, where he expanded the business organically and through acquisitions. Rob Girardi, a partner at Avista, said Mr. Orr takes a hands-on approach to building businesses and understands complex manufacturing environments. Mr. Orr said he has long admired the firm’s healthcare expertise and its work helping businesses reach their potential. Founded in 2005, Avista has invested more than $10 billion in over 50 healthcare businesses worldwide across four healthcare subsectors.
