Closed Loop Partners has acquired a majority interest in Sutter Metals, a provider of metals recycling and scrap processing services.
Sutter Metals provides collection, sorting, and preparation services for ferrous and nonferrous materials used in remanufacturing. The company processes a range of inputs, including aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel scrap, as well as large industrial equipment sourced from aerospace, automotive, and electronics companies. The company also handles complementary recyclable commodities such as aluminum cans and cardboard, supplying processed feedstock to mills, foundries, and brokers.

“For decades, our team has worked to build a trusted, resilient metals management platform that serves generators, manufacturers and communities across the region. Partnering with Closed Loop allows us to accelerate our mission, expand our infrastructure and strengthen domestic metals supply chains at a time when localized processing is critical,” said Mr. Sutter. “We look forward to entering this next chapter with a partner who shares our commitment to operational excellence, environmental stewardship and the circular economy.”
Closed Loop invests in the circular economy – a system where products and materials are reused, repaired, and recycled to reduce waste – through several strategies including venture capital, private equity, and credit. The firm’s buyout strategy focuses on acquiring and growing companies across sectors including plastics, packaging, food and agriculture, circular technology, and textiles. The circular economy industry is gaining momentum as companies and investors seek to reduce waste and decouple growth from resource consumption. According to a 2024 report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the global circular economy could generate $4.5 trillion in economic benefits by 2030 through waste reduction, efficient resource use, and new business models.
