CBS’ services include day porter staffing, carpet cleaning, floor care, stripping and waxing, and window cleaning. The Grand Rapids, Michigan-headquartered company was founded in 2017 by Matt Joyce.

4M Building Solutions is a St. Louis-headquartered provider of commercial cleaning, janitorial, disinfection, and housekeeping services in 27 states across the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast. The company has more than 6,900 employees and provides its services to 215 million square feet of space in corporate owner-occupied facilities, multi-tenant office buildings, and facilities supporting industrial and manufacturing, logistics, distribution, education, healthcare, and senior living. 4M was founded in 1978 by Mitch Murch as Mitch Murch Maintenance Management and today is led by his son, CEO Tim Murch.

“Matt Joyce and his teammates created an exceptional business with a diversified customer base and an emphasis on specialty services,” said Mr. Murch. “4M will preserve Matt’s legacy, support his employees and provide infrastructure to support and enhance CBS’s growth trajectory. Notably, Matt plans to continue with 4M and we look forward to his continued success.”

O2 acquired 4M in December 2022 through its second fund, O2 Investment Partners Fund IV LP, which closed in April 2023 with an oversubscribed $445 million in capital.

Under O2 ownership and in addition to CBS, 4M has added several businesses to its platform, including Ohio-based Capital Services (May 2023); New York-based LCS Facility Group (November 2023); Michigan-based Hi-Tec Building Services (September 2024); Wisconsin-based Thario Building Services (September 2024); Tennessee-based Covenant Building Service (December 2024); Missouri-based Brokate Janitorial (May 2025); Ohio-based Miracle Clean Services (August 2025); and Missouri-based FKI Cleaning Services (August 2025).

“The acquisition of CBS accelerates 4M’s expansion in the greater Grand Rapids metro-area and throughout the broader state of Michigan, particularly in the Southeast area,” said Mark Heneman, a vice president at O2. “The additional density in Michigan will continue to improve the speed and efficiency of services to customers. Both CBS and 4M are culturally aligned around a customer-first service model and we look forward to arming the CBS team with 4M’s best practices and technology-forward operations.”
