Black Diamond Gets New PE Head

Black Diamond Capital Management (BDCM) has named Rodney Cohen as head of private equity. Mr. Cohen will have responsibility for managing the firm’s portfolio of private equity funds, consisting of the BDCM Opportunity Funds II, III, IV, and V, with a combined $4 billion in capital.

Mr. Cohen has more than 25 years of private equity experience most recently as managing director and co-head of Carlyle Equity Opportunity Funds I and II which invest in North American-based middle-market companies. He was the co-chair of both funds and also served on the investment committees of Carlyle Global Partners, Carlyle Power Partners, and Carlyle Energy Mezzanine Funds I and II. Prior to joining Carlyle in 2010, Mr. Cohen was a co-managing partner from 1996 to 2010 with Pegasus Capital Advisors, a middle-market investment firm.

Mr. Cohen earned his law degree from Columbia University and his undergraduate degree from Franklin & Marshall College.

Black Diamond invests equity and debt in control and non-control opportunities with an emphasis on distressed situations. The firm has over $9 billion in assets under management with offices in Greenwich, Connecticut and London, United Kingdom.
