IMS ExpertServices, a provider of expert witness services and a portfolio company of Trinity Hunt Partners, has acquired The Focal Point.
The Focal Point (TFP) is a provider of litigation consulting, including trial strategy and jury consulting; trial graphics and animation; and trial technology services. The company was founded in 1989 by Andrew Spingler and over its history has been involved in more than 5,000 civil and criminal cases. TFP has offices in Oakland (headquarters), Dallas, and New York (www.thefocalpoint.com).
IMS ExpertServices, which was acquired by Trinity Hunt in November 2017, is a provider of expert witness search and placement services. Customers of IMS include three-quarters of the Fortune 100 and nearly all of the Am Law Top 100 law firms in the country. IMS, led by CEO Bill Wein, was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Pensacola, FL (www.expertservices.com).
“The combination with TFP represents a compelling opportunity for IMS and marks an important step in the acquisition plans we have collaboratively developed with our management partners,” said Pete Stein, a managing partner of Trinity Hunt. “We are excited to expand IMS’ service offerings into trial graphics and litigation consulting, and we look forward to the collective growth opportunities that lie ahead.”
Dallas-based Trinity Hunt invests in founder and family-owned companies that have EBITDAs between $4 million and $25 million. Sectors of interest include business services, industrial growth, non-cyclical consumer products, and healthcare services. In September 2018, Trinity Hunt held a final closing of its fifth fund, Trinity Hunt Partners V LP, at an oversubscribed $350 million in capital commitments. The new fund exceeded its initial target of $300 million and closed at its hard cap (www.trinityhunt.com).
