Alexander Navab, a former senior executive at KKR, has formed Navab Capital Partners.

Navab Capital Partners (NCP) will make equity investments in North American-based upper mid-cap to larger companies that are active in the healthcare, technology, media, financial technologies, financial services, and consumer sectors. It has been reported that the New York-based firm is looking to raise $3 billion for its inaugural fund (www.navabcapital.com).

Mr. Navab is the former Head of the Americas Private Equity Business at KKR, he left the firm in 2017 and has over 28 years of experience in the financial services and investment management industries. At KKR he was a member of the firm’s Management Committee, the chairman of the Americas Private Equity Investment Committee, and the chairman of the Americas Portfolio Management Committee. Prior to KKR, he worked at James D. Wolfensohn from 1991 to 1993 in mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance. He started his career in 1987 as an investment banker at Goldman, Sachs & Co.

“We have assembled a team of experienced leaders as we build a next-generation platform in the alternative investment space. I am excited to announce our inaugural leadership group and look forward to the continued growth of our firm over the near-term,” said Mr. Navab.

Joining Mr. Navab at NCP are Robert Berlin (Partner) who joins from The Baupost Group, a Boston-based hedge fund; Ram Jagannath (Partner) joins NCP from The Carlyle Group where he spent twelve years most recently as managing director in Carlyle’s US buyout fund, focused on healthcare; Annette Rodriguez (Partner) joins from Warburg Pincus where she was a managing director investing in the consumer, retail, healthcare, industrials and business services sectors; Mark Schroeder (Partner and CFO) is a former senior partner at Deloitte and most recently a senior advisor at Uber; Michael Gaviser (Managing Director, Head of Capital Raising and Investor Relations) is a former managing director of KKR where he was active in fundraising, new product development, marketing and distribution; Bhavna Vashisht Katkar (Managing Director, Chief Administrative Officer and Head of Human Capital) is a former director at KKR active in managing business operations and human resources; and Georgia Levenson Keohane (Managing Director) will lead NCP’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives and will serve as president of the firm’s philanthropic foundation. Most recently she was executive director of the Pershing Square Foundation and as a professor in the social enterprise program at Columbia Business School.

NCP has placed corporate philanthropy as a key component to its mission and believes private equity today has an opportunity to apply a differentiated model that includes “doing well by doing good” at its core. The firm’s philanthropic foundation will be provided with both financial and human capital from NCP to support its ESG initiatives.

“Our shared vision is that a private equity firm can create value and also act as a catalyst to make meaningful and measurable differences in the communities in which it operates,” said Mr. Navab. “This experienced, entrepreneurial team is thrilled to work together and build a firm that delivers on this promise.”

Petershill Private Equity, which makes minority investments in private equity firms and is part of Goldman Sachs Asset Management (www.gsam.com), is a strategic partner in the development of NCP.
