Duff & Phelps Builds Healthcare Team

Duff & Phelps has expanded its healthcare M&A advisory practice with the addition of Managing Director Phil Smith and Director Adam Stormoen. Messrs. Smith and Stormoen are based in Duff & Phelps’ Minneapolis office.

With six senior professionals, healthcare is one of Duff & Phelps’ fastest growing Corporate Finance industry verticals. “We are pleased Phil and Adam joined our healthcare M&A advisory practice. Phil brings significant industry knowledge – as both an advisor and healthcare executive – which will be invaluable to our clients,” said Bob Bartell, Global Head of Corporate Finance. “Adam’s focused expertise in the medical device, diagnostic, healthcare service and healthcare IT sectors complements our existing capabilities and transaction experience.”

Mr. Smith has expertise advising public and private companies as well as private equity firms, and his transaction experience includes medical devices, medical equipment and healthcare services. Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, he was a Managing Director with BMO Capital Markets where he focused on healthcare M&A and he was a member of the medical device investment banking team at Piper Jaffray. In addition, Mr. Smith has served as an executive officer of a number of medical technology companies, including DGIMED Ortho, Vital Images, Thermonix and Image-Guided Neurologics. He has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida.

Mr. Stormoen has more than 15 years of experience in both buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions and in raising public and private capital for medical device, diagnostic, healthcare service and healthcare IT companies. Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, he was a Director at Roth Capital Partners, an investment bank based in Southern California, where he focused on both public and private equity offerings, as well as M&A advisory transactions, and played an important role in building the firm’s healthcare practice. Prior to Roth, Mr. Stormoen helped launch the corporate finance practice at Dougherty & Company, a Minneapolis-based financial services firm and also spent nearly a decade at McGladrey advising clients on sell-side and buy-side M&A transactions and private capital raises. He has a BBA from the University of Wisconsin.

Duff & Phelps advises clients in the areas of valuation, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, alternative assets, disputes and taxation. The firm has more than 2,000 employees serving clients from offices in North America, Europe and Asia (www.duffandphelps.com).
