Carrick Adds Software Operating Executive

Carrick Capital Partners has hired a new Operating Executive with the addition of Paul Zolfaghari, formerly President of MicroStrategy.

“Paul’s experience in enterprise software and services will give our portfolio companies a tremendous advantage,” said Marc McMorris, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Carrick Capital Partners.

As an Operating Executive at Carrick, Mr. Zolfaghari will use his domain and operational experience in the enterprise software industry to help the firm’s portfolio companies develop strategic plans, implement processes and programs to deliver on their goals, and adjust operations as necessary for maximum value creation.

“I’ve been impressed with Carrick’s commitment to their portfolio companies and I was looking for an opportunity with an investing group where I could make a significant, tangible impact,” said Mr. Zolfaghari.  “The companies at Carrick are at a critical stage where my experience creating and executing go-to-market and operational strategies will make a real difference in their ability to scale and succeed.”

From November 2012 to January 2016, Mr. Zolfaghari was President of MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), a provider of business intelligence, mobile software, and cloud-based services, where he also held a number of senior positions including Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Operations, accountable for all lines of the company’s nearly $500 million in revenue. Earlier in his career he was the Chief Operating Officer of ParAccel, an analytic database company located in Silicon Valley and was an attorney in Washington, DC with the law firm of Howrey & Simon.

Carrick invests in business to business technology-enabled companies that have revenues of $10 million to $100 million. Sectors of specific interest include business process outsourcing, transaction processing, software as a service and enterprise software. The firm was co-founded in 2012 by Marc McMorris, a former General Atlantic managing director who led investments in business services and software, and Jim Madden, the previous founder and chief executive of Exult, a human resources business processing company. Carrick has offices in San Francisco and Newport Beach (www.carrickcapitalpartners.com).

“Developing superior go-to-market and operational strategies is critical to the success of any business.  Paul has already rolled up his sleeves and gotten involved with many of our companies to help them think critically and fine-tune this component of their operations,” said Mr. McMorris.
