Metalmark Capital has promoted principals Donald Gerne and Kumar Valliappan to Managing Director. Both are based in the Metalmark’s New York office.
Mr. Gerne joined Metalmark in September 2011. Before joining Metalmark, Mr. Gerne served as a Vice President at Greenhill Capital Partners from June 2007 to August 2011. Earlier in his career he spent time at both J.W. Childs and Lehman Brothers. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. He is currently a director of Northeast Natural Energy (gas exploration and production) and WorldStrides (group educational travel programs).
Mr. Valliappan joined Metalmark in 2006. Prior to Metalmark, Mr. Valliappan was an analyst at Morgan Stanley from 1999 to 2001 and was an associate at Berkshire Partners from 2001 to 2003. He received a BS in Economics and an MBA from Wharton. He is currently a director of Cardinal Chemicals (a maker of adhesives and sealants) and Hoffmaster (disposable tableware) and he has also served as a director of Tegrant (specialty packaging).
Metalmark Capital was established by the principals of Morgan Stanley Capital Partners (MSCP) to manage the Metalmark Capital and MSCP funds. Since 1986, the Metalmark Capital and MSCP funds have invested $7 billion of equity capital in over 100 companies. Sectors of interest include healthcare, energy and industrials.
