Carrick Capital Partners, an investor in technology-enabled services businesses, has promoted Alex Mason to Managing Director and Steve Unterberger to Managing Director of Operations.
“Both Steve and Alex have proven themselves to be invaluable members of our team. They are both dedicated, industrious, entrepreneurial, and accomplished. We attribute much of our success to their exceptional expertise and commitment,” said Jim Madden, Carrick Capital Partners Co-Founder and Managing Director.
Formerly a Director at Carrick Capital Partners and a member of the firm’s founding team, Mr. Mason is involved in all areas of the firm’s investing activities. Prior to Carrick, Mr. Mason was a Vice President at Accel-KKR, and previously worked at Technology Crossover Ventures, a private equity and public equity investment firm focused on growth investments. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mason worked at Paine and Partners, a middle market private equity firm focused on special situations investing; Morgan Stanley, in the firm’s Investment Banking Technology Group and at Morgan Stanley Technology Ventures; and at the Investment Banking Technology Group at Piper Jaffray.
“Alex is a talented and experienced investor who has been an integral part of the team since the beginning of the firm. His contributions have been across the board in our investing efforts, and he has been closely involved with the majority of our portfolio companies. In this new role, he will take on even more direct sourcing responsibilities,” said Carrick Capital Partners Co-Founder and Managing Director Marc McMorris.
Steve Unterberger formerly held the position of Chief Technology Officer at Carrick Capital Partners. Before joining Carrick, Mr. Unterberger held several positions at Exult, most recently in the role of Business Model Architecture President until the time of its acquisition by Hewitt Associates. Prior to Exult, Mr. Unterberger was a US Executive Vice President of SHL Systemhouse, a $2 billon IT outsourcer acquired by MCI in 1995. Earlier in his career, he was a Senior Manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
“Steve’s decades of technology and BPO experience have been enormously valuable to our portfolio companies. Steve’s application of Carrick’s ABV (approach to build value) in the oversight and development assistance he provides has been recognized by our CEOs as one of the greatest benefits of working with Carrick,” said Mr. McMorris.
Carrick Capital Partners invests in companies with revenues of $10 million to $100 million that provide technology-enabled service offerings, business process outsourcing, transaction processing, software as a service and enterprise software. The firm was co-founded in 2012 by Marc McMorris, a former General Atlantic managing director who led investments in business services and software, and Jim Madden, the previous founder and chief executive of Exult, a human resources business processing company.
