Nova Capital Management, an acquirer of corporate and private equity portfolios, has appointed Tom Leader to the newly created position of Chief Investment Officer.
As Chief Investment Officer, he will be responsible for the portfolio management and investment performance of the firm’s existing investments and for overseeing and maintaining quality control on all new investments.
Having begun his career as an accountant with Coopers & Lybrand, Mr. Leader has spent over 22 years in private equity with Morgan Grenfell Private Equity, Baring Private Equity Partners and Nova Capital. During that time he has been involved in making and managing a range of US, Canadian and European buy-out and private equity investments across several sectors including engineering, packaging, chemicals, media and healthcare. Currently, he is Chairman of Penox SA, is one of the Investment Partners responsible for the Shell portfolio and is a member of Nova’s Investment Committee.
Since joining Nova Capital in 2005, as well as his direct involvement in several of Nova Capital’s new investments, Mr. Leader has played a key role in developing the firm’s investment processes and strategies.
“I am delighted that Tom is taking on this role. He has already played a huge part in helping us refine our investment strategy and improve our investment and portfolio management processes and procedures over the last 8 years,” said David Williamson, Nova Capital’s Managing Partner. “This appointment will mean he can give greater focus to that role going forward as we seek continuously to achieve the highest standards in terms of the professionalism and rigor we bring to new and existing investments, both in Europe and North America”.
Nova Capital Management has acquired or taken over the management of private equity portfolios representing a total transactional value of some $1.7 billion. The firm looks to acquire all businesses that a seller is divesting, with a combined enterprise value typically in the range of $100 million to $500 million. Sectors of interest include engineering and manufacturing; services and distribution; technology, media and telecommunications; and consumer products. Nova Capital Management was founded in 2002 and has offices in London, Chicago and Toronto (www.nova-cap.com).
